Get in the Zone

Top athletes recognize the value of sleep, exercise, diet, meditation and other calming practices and mind-body fitness for peak performance. “Getting in the zone” is proven by a number of studies. Often, the difference between the athlete that excels at the highest level, and those that don’t quite make the grade, is not physical; the great college running back that flops in the pros, or the minor-league pitcher with the 95 mph fastball that has no more than the cup of coffee in the major leagues are usually awesome athletes. It is the other parts of their training, and their mental approach to the game that separates them from those who have long, professional careers.

Why can’t we take these same principles and apply them to our work and personal lives?

As an entrepreneur, you usually love what you do. You understand what it’s like to be “in the zone”. The biggest hint is when you’re engaged in an activity where you lose all track of time. This is usually a strong hint that you’re playing your passion.

But to achieve peak performance, you must not neglect the rest of the equation. Why not train like an athlete? If you take care of your body and your mind the way top professionals in the field of sports do, won’t the performance of your company reflect this? Why not afford yourself the best chance for success?
