Ann Babiarz and Associates LLC is excited to announce the upcoming formation of a second mastermind group, one dedicated to jazz songwriters. This group will go live later this fall, so stay tuned for more info!
Today’s guest post is by Michael A. Babiarz who will facilitate the Jazz Songwriters Mastermind Group.
There are lots of songwriting groups around. Most of them seem to cater to the folks who pen tunes for singer-songwriters, country artists, pop stars or hip-hop wordsmiths. I like virtually any genre of music. Give me a well-performed Gregorian chant and I’ll probably start singing along. But my passion through many decades has been jazz.
Sometimes called the quintessential American musical art form, jazz has encircled the globe. In fact, in parts of Europe, Asia and South America, its popularity now exceeds that which it has in its country of origin. I’ve loved to craft jazz tunes — both instrumental and vocal — but often found this a lonely pursuit. As I scan the World Wide Web, where today there exist more websites than human beings currently alive, I don’t seem to find that digital meet-up place on the web where those who write jazz can meet, learn from one another and from masters, inspire and receive inspiration, and add to this marvelous genre.
To remedy this, along comes the Jazz Songwriters Mastermind Group . . .
I hope as you read this, you’re a like-minded soul. If so, and if you decide to join, here’s some of the things that I and the co-creators of this organization want you to experience:
A community where you can freely interact with other songwriters through various forums, chats and private social media.
Periodic conference calls where you will share information and tap into the knowledge of several masters who we intend to invite into the group and who we want on as many calls as possible.
Because we have the ability to video chat on the conference calls, we can also use them as a virtual songwriter circle, where you can play or perform your songs for other members, or listen to theirs, in an atmosphere of sharing, and without concern about losing valuable intellectual property rights.
We will publish useful information in our members-only blog, where you can read about the creative process, the business of songwriting, and the aforementioned intellectual property rights. The latter often confuses many a songwriter, as we are unsure how to protect our own works and how to appropriately use the works of others.
We will search out discounts on things that songwriters and musicians need, which we’d like to see as another benefit of membership.
We intend to offer songwriting contests to the members, and unlike many other organizations, will not charge entry fees; this will be part of your membership in the group.
Down the road, we’ve tossed around the idea of a conference, where we could have in-person education, maybe invite some top-notch artists to play some of our members’ tunes (and some of theirs of course!) and enjoy face time with each other.
Mastermind groups have been used for at least a hundred years. Numerous studies show that people who participate in mastermind groups enjoy higher levels of success. And that is truly the mission here: let this be a collaborative effort toward one anothers’ success.
