Excuse Me: Did You Have Enough Information Before You Made That Decision?

We live in the “information age.” Mankind now generates approximately the same amount of information in the one day that we created from the beginning of recorded history to the year 2003. The amount of content that Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube spawn is staggering. Type in a search term or phrase into your favorite search engine, and you will likely get results measured in the millions or billions.

So how can you best find that recipe for crockpot chicken, or the answer to that complex physics equation?

A common complaint in today’s society is that we have too little time and too much to do. Much of our ability to efficiently use time revolves around how much information we choose to process in any given time frame. It’s clear that we can never collect all or even most facts about a topic or question we have. Moreover, much of the information available to us can be colored by the source. A simple test of the latter is to watch the reporting of the same news story on CNN, Fox news, and MSNBC.

A key component in progressing towards your goals is your ability to analyze info and make decisions that will further you on your path.  Today, notice how you process information, and what sources you rely upon to provide the raw data to you. Do you feel that you receive enough information, too much, or too little? Are there ways that you can become more efficient in the data you do receive so as not to be on information overwhelm or overload?
