3 Things to Know About Mystery

Consider the following:

“I have observed the power of the watermelon seed. It has the power of drawing from the ground and through itself 200,000 times its weight. When you can tell me how it takes this material and out of it colors an outside surface beyond the imitation of art, and then forms inside of it a white rind and within that again, a red heart, thickly inlaid with black seeds, each one of which in turn is capable of drawing through itself 200,000 times its weight—when you can explain to me the mystery of the watermelon, you can ask me to explain the mystery of God.”

WILLIAM JENNINGS BRYAN (1860-1925)

Each day the gap between science and spirituality narrows. The mysteries of the Universe become less mysterious as quantum physics begins to unravel what was once impossible to understand. Even the idea of time travel has been offered as mathematically possible. However, there will always be mysteries in life. For example: How can one grasp the energy of Unconditional Love? From our level of awareness, this energy cannot be comprehended.

As you step towards faith, you can discover and reveal your greatest strengths. There is great power here! This power can accomplish major things. You can learn to trust in this power to bless you with an abundant life, even though you do not fully understand it.

Think of things that you accept at face value, without evidence. What stories have you just accepted as true even though they didn’t quite add up? It’s great to know, but sometimes even greater not to have to know. If you know something works for you, you need not always understand how.

Here are three suggestions for invoking an appreciation of the mystery of life:

1. Whenever you feel yourself slipping into judgment or worry, use your mind to shift gears. Affirm that everything around you is a miracle, because it is. Focus on using your thoughts for gratitude rather than anxiety.

2. Remind yourself daily that everything is in order. The universe is an intelligent system that you are a part of, and trusting in that intelligence is far more fulfilling than questioning it or even trying to figure it all out.

3. Try enjoying rather than understanding.

Sometimes not knowing is simply okay.
