Annabolic Times-November, 2012 Who Are You?

Halloween 2012 has come and gone. What mask are you still wearing?

Very often, we don’t allow others to see our true or authentic self. Instead, we choose to create façades behind which we feel safe, comfortable, powerful, or even sane. And, many of us have multiple costumes in which we ensconce ourselves. We can have a “self” for work, for home, for our friends, for our church or spiritual home, for what ever.

As we recall the images of kids in costumes, spooky movies, or eating barf-loads of candy, consider the following:

  • Do we have a costume or costumes in which we hide?
  • If so, in what settings do we use these?
  • And the tough question-why do we use these?

More often than not, the primal reason behind the cloaking of our true self is simply fear (FALSE EVIDENCE APPEARING REAL). One of the most primitive of human emotions, it unfortunately is a motivation for much of what we do on a day to day basis.

What can you do to lessen your fear of your authentic or true self?
