Why Your Brain Needs Exercise

Train Your Brain

“The brain needs regular exercise just like the body does. When a child is young and everything is new and novel, the brain is at its peak of absorbing new inputs and modeling the child’s world. Not only is the child absorbing the most information, the brain is in its healthiest and functionally best state.

As we age, we settle into unchanging patterns. We accept one culture, one denomination, one political party, one diet, one daily routine, one group of friends, one attitude about money and we live in our personal comfort zones. We do not see the need to change things, whether they are working for us or not. When we fail at something, we simply try harder using the same beliefs and habits. They seem so natural you can almost hear people say: this is who I am, the summation of my life experiences. This is true up until now. But it won’t be true tomorrow if you have experiences that can change you. You don’t want to play tomorrow’s game with yesterday’s rules. And if you are not having new experiences, you should turn off the TV, get off the couch and seek out something new to exercise your brain and jolt your comfort levels.”
